Adult Literacy Program Coordinator Job Description

Classification: Non-exempt, hourly, part-time (25 hours/week at $18/hour)

Reports to: Adult Literacy Program Director

Overview:

This position supports the work of the Adult Literacy Program Director and manages the various class opportunities offered year-round by Loudoun Literacy Council.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Secure rooms and create schedules.
  • Assist in the recruitment of volunteer teachers and tutors.
  • Assigning teachers to classes
  • Manage correspondence with students and volunteers.
  • Make site visits to classes – engage students on progress toward goals.
  • Collect and track student and volunteer data, including evaluations.
  • Support the registration process for class.
  • Share information on various programs to potential students and volunteers.
  • Order student books and manage book inventory.
  • Prepare training and registration materials.
  • Represent the organization at external meetings, events, or gatherings.
  • Maintain an office presence, including answering phone calls and emails.
  • Communicate professionally to all in-person, phone, and email correspondence.
  • Participate in fundraising activities when requested.
  • Support the director in the day-to-day program functions with other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Commitment to Loudoun Literacy Council’s mission.
  • Ability to work with adult learners in a kind and compassionate manner.
  • Enthusiasm, support, and encouragement for volunteers.
  • Ability to work as a team member.
  • Fluency in Spanish preferred, but not required.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong organizational skills, flexible, and self-directed.
  • Ability to travel to class locations to conduct site visits.
  • Some limited evenings and weekends availability (~25 days/year).
