Loudoun Literacy Council
Loudoun Literacy Council has been changing lives through reading and learning to promote personal growth and empowerment in Loudoun County since 1980. Our vision is to be the leading literacy organization in Loudoun County providing access for all residents to the literacy tools and resources necessary to gain the skills they need to take the most basic and meaningful step toward achieving success and contributing to the community.
Volunteer Teams
There is a great need for volunteers to help adults develop the English skills to find a job, go shopping, get a driver’s license, make a doctor’s appointment, finish school, read to their children or achieve their personal and professional goals.

Literacy Programs
The Family Literacy Program serves at-risk children and their families in our community through several different initiatives including Head Start, STEP, Fall for Reading, Book Builder Program, Sweet Dreams, Baby Book Bundles and others. Through these efforts we are able to put thousands of new and gently used books into the hands and homes of low income families in Loudoun County.
Loudoun Literacy Council also offers a variety of options for community members who are 18 years of age and older to achieve their literacy goals. Classes are taught year round at partner sites in Leesburg, Sterling, Ashburn and South Riding. All services are performed by trained volunteers from the community.
Donate to LLC
Illiteracy is an economic issue. According to the most recent statistics, illiteracy costs taxpayers $224 billion per year. Two-thirds of adults receiving public assistance performed at the two lowest literacy levels.
Since 1980, Loudoun Literacy Council has been giving the gift of literacy to members of the community. We have helped more than 4,000 adults and young people improve their literacy skills through programs supported by the dedication of over 800 trained volunteers. Your support will help us continue to strengthen our community.

Why Volunteer?
“If I could help someone get ahead to better support themselves and their families by helping them with their English language skills, I’d feel like I was doing something worthwhile for not only that individual but our entire community.”
